While Taking Shape
I know it’s happening, but who is it happening to? *
While Taking Shape is an intimate dance performance which explores gestures as portals to memories and as connectors between bodies and experiences.
In the performance audience and performers share the space, visible to each other. The choreography is built from the gestures of the audience: they are echoed, held, stretched in the space, reversed, reshaped. By doing this the work invites to sense and acknowledge what it means to bear witness: In which way the body of the performer is connected with the body of the spectator? How does gaze work and move in that relationship? How far, how close are they to each other?
In times in which the overconsumption of images, at high speed and stripped of any context, seems to be freezing our ability to connect with what we see; While Taking Shape invites us to slow down and give attention to small things, to perceive the movement of what seems still, to listen to quiet sounds.
“While Taking Shape is not only a touching meditation, it also confronts. González Sola has found a way to let in our feelings even at the sight of acts of violence, without moralizing it, by the way” – Fransien van der Putt 💎 Critic’s choice of Theaterkrant
